The Latest Wave August 2010 is causing a stir with folks. Not everyone is feeling the shots by Steven Meisel titled “Water & Oil”. The model is in black, prone and dirty on jagged rocks, netting draped around her legs like a dead sea creature. On thing is for certain…….the images of the BP oil spill will be in folks memories for generations to come. It was the worst environmental disaster in American history. Just last week Italian Vogue was being praised for putting a gray hair model, Kristen McMenamy on the front cover….that was short lived.

Italian Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani responded to the controversy saying she meant no harm and instead wanted to raise awareness.
The images are a sort of wounded bird spitting up water in a feathered gown coated in oil — is meant to make an environmental statement.
“The message is to be careful about nature,” she said by telephone from Milan, Italy. “Just to take care more about nature. … I understand that it could be shocking to see and to look in this way these images…There is nothing political. There is nothing social. It’s only visually. We gave a message but in a visual way.”
