“Here is what I suspect my face signifies to other Americans: an invisible person. An icon of so much that the culture pretends to honor but that it in fact patronizes and exploits. Not just people who are ‘good at math’ but a mass of stifled, repressed, abused, confromist quasi-robots who simply do not matter.” Asian Like Me by Wesley Yang. Based on what I know Asian folks have always been the brains of our society and the thinkers who think outside of the box…plus not to mention beautiful people that most African American women flood the beauty supply store to purchase “YAKI” hair for the sole purpose of hair weaving and braiding their locks. Uh huh! I have never personally had a bad experience with any Asian nor a Chinese or Japanese individual…I found the group to be the kindest group of people on earth, simply doing them in a world of prejudice and naysayers. I just came back from Japan/Nippon. I gazed into the faces of some of the most beautiful women in the world and the kindest people that make me wonder what makes these folks very resilient? What I found fascinating is Asian women tend to wear their hair off their faces, have very clear skin, gorgeous long hair, kind heart people, impeccable manners and are very kind people. I could not tell if they are having a bad day at all! Did I mention my son is dating a women from Japan? He is absolutely smitten with the young lady and I think I am too! She is smart, loves him and want the best for him and herself….at least I can only hope. When I met her she came bearing gifts….I wonder if that is a Japanese culture that us American women must learn? She was the second Japanese women during my visit while in Japan to my son’s home that came bearing a gift. I want to learn how to speak Japanese and demand that folks that enter my home, leave your shoes at the door!
