Cruising In Haiti

The Royal Caribbean explains in this video why they decided to dock 60-90 miles from Haiti despite the dangerous situation and it has not stopped the  Royal Caribbean International from docking one of their luxury cruise ships, Independence of the Seas, just a few miles the  disasters. The 4,370-berth docked at the resort of Labadee on Friday, with heavily armed guards patrolling 12-foot high fences, so passengers could get on the beaches with water sports, barbecues, and shopping during their cruise. The Dominican Republic is urging tourists not to cancel holiday bookings despite a devastating earthquake in neighboring Haiti, where people are debating whether it is appropriate for cruise ships to keep making scheduled stops at the country’s private beach resorts.

Folks are voicing their displeasure in the cruise line decision to dock across tweeting and commenting on social media websites. The people in Haiti are desperate and hungry. This cruise line is going to look like a godsend and than there are some who don’t think it is a wise decision.  This is sure to raise a few eyebrows and get the tongues wagging about how this is wrong considering the state of Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake. However the cruise line has vowed to donate money and deliver supplies to the island.

Some folks are saying this is a very dumb move from Royal Caribbean.

Granted the company has pledged $1 million to the relief effort and not all passengers could be callous enough to spiffy up their tan on the beach.

Some booked on ships scheduled to stop at Labadee are afraid that desperate people might breach the resort’s 12ft high fences to get food and drink, but others seemed determined to enjoy their holiday.”I’ll be there on Tuesday and I plan on enjoying my zip line excursion as well as the time on the beach,” said one.
