Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Want U.S. Secretary Vilsack To Hit the Door

Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Want U.S. Secretary Vilsack To Hit the DoorWASHINGTON – AUGUST 03: Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association President Tom Burrell (L) heads into the U.S. Department of Agriculture to meet with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and demand he resign August 3, 2010 in Washington, DC. In the wake of the firing of Shirley Sherrod, the black farmers are demanding Vilsack’s resignation for failing to resolve the 10-year-old discrimination settlement agreement against the USDA. Sherrod, an African-American department employee, was ambushed by conservative bloggers who posted a video of a speech she gave to the NAACP that was edited to make Sherrod appear to say she denied services to a white farmer when she worked at private advocacy firm over two decades ago. Vilsack and President Barack Obama personally apologized to Sherrod and offered her a new position at the department, but she has yet to decide if she wants the job.
