The Somali-born model, Iman, has added her voice to calls for greater help from the international community for famine relief in the east African country.
Iman, a supporter of Save the Children’s relief work, said many countries had not given enough to aid organisations. Particularly her wealthy friends and neighboring countries have not open their wallets and pocketbooks to the famine hit Somalis.
“Over the past month, UNHCR figures show that nearly 40,000 Somalis displaced by drought and famine have converged on Mogadishu in search of food, water, shelter and other assistance,” said Vivian Tan, spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
She described the situation in drought-struck Somalia as “heartbreaking” and said it was getting worse. Watch the video
