Recently my oldest son gave me a copy of this book “Joker One” by Donovan Campbell. He said it was an excellent book for him to read and thought I may enjoy it as well.
Donovan Campbell graduated with honors from Princeton University and Harvard Business School, finished first in his class at the Marines’ Basic Officer Course, and served three combat deployments–two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and a Bronze Star with Valor for his time in Iraq.
Former Marine Donovan Campbell served three combat deployments, two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. In Iraq, he commanded Joker One, a platoon of new Marines that he trained and transformed into a fighting unit. They were assigned to Ramadi, the capital of the Sunni-dominated Anbar province where they engaged in daily house-to-house combat with insurgents.
Campbell has written a memoir about his experiences with the platoon called Joker One: A Marine Platoon’s Story of Courage, Leadership, and Brotherhood. Part of the proceeds from the book will go to various nonprofit organizations that help veterans, wounded soldiers and military families.
Recommended reading and four books given to me by my oldest son. He knows I love to read.:
Moral Courage by Rushworth M. Kidder
Complete Idiot’s Guide Writing Business Books by Bert Holtje
Operation Homecoming by Andrew Carroll
When War Becomes Personal by Donald Anderson
