Thanksgiving is going to be a hell of a day!

This Thanksgiving Day morning I was surfing my favorite blogs to read the nice happy messages that people tend to write because that’s what they think readers want to read. Well that is not the case with dreamandhustle “For True Hustlers, This is the Best Thanksgiving Ever – Don’t Get Depressed! ” I thought that was a good start for my morning. Positive thinking will get me through today. I keyed my way over to Clay Cane’s blog and listened to

“Listen to my KPFK Interview and a Thanksgiving Prayer” Pretty deep poem.

While listening I started reading Clay Cane’s blog and the piece he written for: An Unpopular Opinion

I know this might be an unpopular opinion. I know many people in the black gay community, and especially the black heterosexual community, might not want to hear the points in my online exclusive for “An Unpopular Opinion: Blacks, Gays, and Prop. 8.” However, I also know there are people who want a point of view from the other side.

First, I admire and respect Jasmyne Cannick for her activism — she makes no apologies. Nonetheless, I think it’s okay to disagree in the black gay community. So, after reading her piece in the LA Times, I felt like it was important to explain the other side, who might not feel like Cannick — and I’m sure there is another side who doesn’t agree with me or Cannick. Thankfully, the black gay community isn’t a monolith.

I start to think Thanksgiving is going to be a hell of a day for a lot of families and friends who had their rights taken away due to Prop. 8, a hell of day for those fighting the Iraq war, a hell of a day for those who lost their jobs only yesterday, a hell of a day for those who live with poverty everyday especially the children and hell of a day for the people who are effected by issues of proposition 8. This is a topic that is not going away quietly as some may have hoped due to the way they voted. I think about my gay siblings and relatives who I will see today and wonder how they must be feeling. It is going to be a hell of a “Thanksgiving Day”. I am thankful to be able to read others opinions and thankful we still live in a country were people are speaking up for their rights. I am thankful to be alive to witness things my ancestors only dreamed about. I am thankful that God died on the cross for my salvation so that we may all have ever lasting life! I hope that most of my readers have a hell of a thanksgiving day eating dinner with their love ones.

If the lord is willing; I will back on my blog on Monday ranting and raving about whatever comes to mind.
