Happening Around Town | National Black HIV/AIDS Day

February 7, 2011 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, an observance intended to raise awareness of the disproportionate impact of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) on the black and all ethnic groups population in the United States and to encourage prevention measures, such as HIV testing. Know that contracting HIV/AIDS is not a black thing it is a universal disease. The Obama Administration’s release of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the Affordable Care Act creates a opportunity to consider sexual health approaches that extend beyond the scope of any particular disease (i.e., HIV/AIDS) and promotes wellness and prevention.
