When Wyclef sang if “If I was President”…I wonder did he think about running for the position while singing the song? According to the cyberstreets Wyclef will make an official announcement on very soon. The Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean will announce his bid for the President of Haiti. You would have to be living under a rock to not know that Wyclef loves his beloved Haiti long before the devastating earthquake….Stand up for Haiti! Lord knows they can use leadership that want to develop the country into an island that would attract folks from around the world, create opportunities, rebuild and make sure everyone has a quality of life they can grow and prosper with their families. The Fugees star, who was appointed ambassador-at-large of the country in 2006 has not made a final decision.
Haiti won independence from France in 1804 after a slave revolt. The reputation of traditional politicians has become tarnished by decades of corruption, violence, intrigue and alliances with past military dictatorships.
The naysayers are coming out in full force about his lack of experience to lead the country torned and destroyed by natural disasters. Someone needs to step up and develop the poor country. Why not Wyclef…he loves Haiti! About now there are not that many takers applying for the presidential position…most folks are afraid to travel to the island. The current president is not getting any love and a matter of fact some think he is moving to damn slow. Haiti’s outgoing government of President Rene Preval, who cannot seek re-election, has faced widespread criticism for being slow to aid victims of the devastating quake and in launching the huge task of rebuilding the country. Anyone willing to deal with mother nature while trying to rebuild a country from ground zero is a force to be reckon with..my hats and clinking glasses are tilted to Wyclef Jean for President of Haiti!
Yele Haiti, released the following statement:
“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward. At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”
The internet is buzzing that Wyclef Jean has announced that he will make his bid for public office on Thursday, August 5, 2010.
